The IP Locator has been modified yet again to return more actual locations instead of only default ones by selectively using the Real Time IP Locator. This is only being done
currently for United States and Canadian locations. Some queries may take a little bit longer.
Unlike most of the other IP address geolocation databases available, SpamID.net does not have a database of hundreds of thousands or millions of records associating IP addresses
with physical locations. IP address assignments change too often; new ones become routeable frequently enough to make it a maintenance nightmare just to maintain accuracy,
much less to improve; and wide usage of IPV6 one of these years will diminish the value of the megadatabases. The IP Locator and Real Time IP Locator can be modified to support
IPV6 with minimal effort and are currently able to report useful information on recently changed or assigned IP addresses that other vendors simply cannot incorporate into their
databases fast enough.
If you would like to try out some simple HTTP APIs that return XML results, take a look at the
APIs. There are APIs for this IP Locator function and for fraud detection. The fraud detection APIs take an IP
address and a location and return the location of the IP address as well as a distance and other information.
